Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.

An important representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
